Welcome To Platform Architecture

Platform Architecture was established by Architect Eugene OHea and Architectural Technician, Pat Donegan, as a vehicle to explore their design philosophies, from concept through to construction stage. The practice works primarily in a rural context.The practice is concerned with how buildings interact and respond to their given environments, conceptually, aesthetically and ecologically.
We have a particular interest in free forms and in exploring projects whose external forms result from, and are defined by, internal spaces as responses to their function.

Both principals have previously worked for a wide variety of architectural practices in Ireland as well as overseas and have toghether gained over 30 years of experience in design and construction.

Forge Project

This project explores the formation of a contemporary dwelling unit from an existing abandoned cottage and adjoining old forge building. Our proposal allows for the existing structures to be retained and re-used in their general existing forms.

We examined the site and evolved a design which responds positively to the particular location. The proposal allows for the existing on-site structures to be retained and sensitively refurbished. All of the existing irregularly spaced opes to the roadside are retained which allows the existing structures to retain their particular vernacular character. Architect_Cork
